Chevrolet Unveils the 2027 Bolt: Canada's Favourite Affordable EV Returns
October 09 2025,
General Motors has brought back the Chevrolet Bolt for the 2027 model year. This isn't simply a return to form—the new Bolt arrives with meaningful upgrades including faster charging, expanded technology, and a sporty RS trim. The vehicle will begin shipping to customers in early 2026 as a limited-run model.
With a starting price of $43,470 ($39,999 MSRP) for the LT trim, the 2027 Bolt positions itself as one of the most accessible electric vehicles for Quebec drivers. For families across Montreal, this represents a practical entry point into electric mobility without sacrificing range or modern conveniences.
Advanced Electric Drive Technology
The 2027 Bolt carries forward its familiar hatchback shape, but the engineering underneath reflects significant advancements. The X76 electric drive unit benefits from extensive testing across GM's EV portfolio. The permanent-magnet motor uses minimal rare-earth materials to control costs, while segmented magnets reduce heat buildup and energy loss.
A blended regenerative braking system adds efficiency. The system prioritizes returning braking energy to the battery, whether drivers use One-Pedal Driving mode or standard braking. The braking system delivers consistent pedal feel—a key improvement over the previous generation.
Faster Charging with Native NACS Port
The 2027 Bolt becomes Chevrolet's first vehicle with a native NACS charging port, expanding access to Canada's growing public charging network. The vehicle supports DC fast charging up to 150 kW, enabling charging from 10% to 80% in 26 minutes. This represents charging speed more than 2.5 times faster than the previous Bolt.
With over 80% of Canadian EV drivers charging at home and the average Canadian driving roughly 50 km daily, the Bolt's estimated 410 km range meets most Quebec drivers' needs with ease.
Integrated Technology and Connectivity
The 2027 Bolt features an 11.3-inch centre infotainment screen and an 11-inch driver information centre. Both displays support Google built-in functionality with OnStar Connectivity, providing access to Google Maps, Google Assistant, and entertainment apps through Google Play.
Google Maps works directly with the battery management system. On longer drives, navigation provides route planning with charging recommendations based on real-time station status and range estimates. When DC fast charging appears along routes, automatic battery preconditioning prepares the battery for optimal charging.
Available Super Cruise integrates with Google Maps to show capable routes and indicate hands-free driving time. Voice assistance through "Hey Google" controls cabin temperature, seat warmers, messaging, and phone calls without removing hands from the wheel.

Refined Interior Design
The driver-centric interior reflects feedback from Bolt owners. A new column shifter creates additional space between front seats, while an available panoramic sunroof brings natural light into the cabin. The dashboard balances physical and virtual controls, keeping frequently-used features like climate control immediately accessible.
Open storage spaces below the instrument panel and between front seats provide easy access. Standard heated seats and heated steering wheel come on both trims, with available ventilated front seats and wireless phone charging. Multiple USB-C ports throughout the cabin accommodate modern device charging needs.
New RS Trim and Style Options
For the first time, the Bolt lineup includes an RS trim with unique grille badging, high-gloss black wheels, and black roof rails. The RS offers an exclusive Atomic Yellow exterior with red interior accent stitching.
The 2027 Bolt offers seven exterior paint colours and 17-inch wheels in three finishes, allowing personalization based on individual preferences.
Comprehensive Safety Technology
The 2027 Bolt includes more than 20 standard safety and driver assistance features, including Intersection Collision Mitigation, Rear Automatic Braking, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert with Braking. These systems help drivers navigate urban environments, parking lots, and intersections across Montreal and throughout Quebec.
Building on a Proven Legacy
The original Bolt established itself as the first long-range, mass-produced EV at an accessible price. In Canada, the Bolt EV recently earned the 2025 Canadian Black Book Best Retained Value Award in the Mainstream Electric Car category.
Since production ended, Chevrolet listened to customer feedback. The 2027 model addresses the most frequently voiced requests: faster charging, expanded technology, improved interior refinement, and a sportier trim option.
With the Equinox EV offering more than 500 km of range and the Bolt LT delivering up to 410 km at an accessible price point, Chevrolet reinforces its position in the affordable EV segment.
